Essential Medicines List 8th Edition
This 8th revision was carried out through broader consultations with clinical pharmacists, national program managers, hospital administrators, and representatives from non-governmental organizations such as WHO, URC, USCDC, and Diagnostic Microbiology Development (DMDP). Three consecutive consultative meetings were organized from March to July 2015. Considering the importance of infection control in hospitals as a top priority, and in combating antimicrobial resistance, a separate list of consumables and microbiology supplies was developed. Furthermore, essential medicines were categorized according to pharmacological classes in alignment with the World Health Organization (WHO) Model List of Essential Medicines, to enhance accessibility and provide a clearer overview. This supplementary list was incorporated into the revised Essential Medicines List. We welcome feedback and comments for further improvement of the list.
