The project, Affordable Medicines Facility-malaria (AMFm), as the name suggests, aims at introducing cheaper artemisinin combination therapy (ACTs) in fixed dose combination (FDC) with the aim of driving out of the market oral artemisinin monotherapies and its derivatives which are thought to contribute to the currently observed emergence of malaria parasites tolerant to artemisinin therapy, the only remaining effective and safe medicine for the treatment of uncomplicated malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum parasite.
